Alvito offers a wide variety of typical Alentejo food specialties. In any of the county restaurants you can taste and enjoy Açorda de Cação (mashed bread with dogfish), Ensopado de Borrego (Lamb Stew), Carne de Porco à Alentejana (pork meat with clams), Migas (fried crumbs), Sopa de Beldroegas (Beldroegas soup), Feijão com Catacuzes (beans with Catacuzes) and Carrasquinhas among several others specialties. Baronia Sausages (Enchidos da Baronia) and the wine produced at Herdade das Barras are worth trying.
Regarding desserts look for the Pastéis de Chila e Grão (Sweet Pumpkin and Chick Peas pastries) and licores (liquors). The yearly gastronomic event is “ As Ervas da Baronia” running since 2007.
